Since we started building our EV battery swapping technology over 10 years ago, we’ve always had one goal: to provide EV drivers with swapping stations that are as fast, affordable and convenient as refueling at a gas station. We’re now closer to that goal than ever before. In partnership with Repsol, we’re rolling out three new battery swapping stations in Madrid, located directly at their gas station sites. For the first time, battery swapping will happen right next to the gas pump.
Expanding EV Infrastructure in Spain
Repsol, a global multi-energy company, has deep roots in Spain and a growing commitment to clean energy. With a goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, Repsol is investing heavily in electrification and sustainable mobility. Repsol’s investment arm, Repsol Corporate Venturing, is an existing investor in Ample, and we’re deepening our partnership by working together to bring more electric infrastructure to Madrid.
By installing our modular battery swapping stations directly within Repsol’s service station network, we’re making it easier for drivers and fleets to go electric while leveraging existing infrastructure. Similar to filling up at the gas pump, our stations are easy to use, offer a seamless drive-through experience, and provide a full charge in just 5 minutes.
The first location in Monteccarmelo is already operational and ready to use, while additional sites on Avenida de Andalucía and in the Barajas area will follow soon. This builds on Ample’s existing station on Manuel Luna Street, extending coverage across the capital.
A Collaborative Effort
Building on our initial launch in Madrid earlier this year with Stellantis and Free2move, each of our partners brings a critical role to expanding our battery swapping network:
- Ample provides the core battery swapping technology and services.
- Repsol contributes its extensive service station network as critical infrastructure.
- Stellantis provides vehicles such as the Fiat 500e to integrate with Ample’s system.
- Free2move operates the first shared mobility fleet powered by battery swapping technology in Spain.
Together, we’re redefining the role of the gas station by turning familiar, everyday stops into hubs for electric mobility. Because Ample’s swapping stations are compatible with any EV, every new site opens the door for more automakers and fleets to simplify their operations with fast, reliable swapping. As the network grows, we keep the same goal we started with: to make it effortless for more drivers and fleets to go electric.
